United General Insurance Company Limited (UGI) has demonstrated its commitment to the growth of the private sector by donating K3 million to the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).
The money will support the upcoming annual Business Leaders’ Summit scheduled from April 24 to 26 in Mangochi District.
In his remark when handed over the cheque, UGI sales and marketing manager Golden Jamu emphasised the company’s dedication to collaborating and building strong relations in the industry.
“At UGI, we believe in training, exposure and interaction as key components of growth,” he said.
“We want to be part of learning because that will help us grow as a company and as individuals. Our donation is aimed at supporting the government’s goal of empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs), noting that their growth is key to expanding UGI’s customer base.
“SMEs form a big part of the private sector. If the sector is going to grow, we have to have a big pool of customers who are going to use our services,” he said.
MCCCI director of membership development Wezi Mungoni thanked UGI for the financial support, saying the summit is aimed at finding innovative and practical solutions to challenges the private sector is facing in the country.
“We are excited about this year’s summit because we have taken a different approach, which is aimed at finding solutions to the problems,” she said.
Mungoni said through the summit, MCCCI wants to unlock private sector-led transformation.
“We want to find out from the collaboration that we will have at the lakeshore what some of the problems private sector is facing,” she said.
The 2025 Business Leaders’ Summit themed Unlocking Private-sector-led Economic Transformation seeks to brainstorm on enabling a vibrant and sustainable economic transformation and intensifying private sector innovation, competitiveness and entrepreneurship.
