This provides indemnity against the same perils as in Fire & Special Perils, plus theft cover:- The main difference between these two covers and Fire and Special Perils is that Houseowners/Householders insurance is for private dwelling houses whereas Fire and Special Perils is for commercial buildings and contents therein.
Houseowners/Householders insurance can be purchased as Houseowners only, Householders cover or combined Houseowners / Householders.
Houseowners insurance policy provides cover for the private dwelling house only, i.e. main structure, outbuildings, fixtures and fittings, walls, fences, gates, etc. This cover is purchased by landlords who own the building but the contents do not belong to them e.g. where the house is rented.
Householders insurance covers contents of a private dwelling house but not the building itself, e.g. sofas, curtains, fridges, bed and beddings, clothings, etc. This is purchased by tenants who insure the contents only since the building does not belong to them.
This is purchased by the owner of the building who is also dwelling in that building:- in this case both the building and the contents belong to them, hence Houseowners / Householders insurance cover.
