McDonald Chibwe

MacDonald Chibwe possesses a decade of progressive experience in a wide range of enterprise management roles at senior management and executive level gained in the Banking and Insurance Sector. He enjoys an edge in strategy formulation, business development, and product innovation. He provides executive leadership in reinsurance, underwriting, claims, business development, and legal services. His passion always revolves around customer value creation.

MacDonald is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic (now known as Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences).

Gloria Chikuse

(CPA (M), FCCA, PAEC)

Gloria Chikuse is an accomplished Chartered Accountant with an impressive career spanning over two decades, including a decade of excellence in senior leadership roles where she has played an instrumental role in shaping the financial landscape of UGI.

Gloria, a key member of the executive team, is responsible for overseeing the entire financial spectrum of the organization. Her duties encompass financial strategy development, budgeting and financial reporting.

Her career journey is a testament to her dedication and expertise in the field of finance. Her proficiency in financial management, coupled with her analytical prowess has propelled UGI to be resilient even in the face of challenging economic conditions.

Information Communication Technology Manager

Louis Mtambo

(Master of Commerce in Accounts and Finance, BSc Computer Information Systems)

Louis Mtambo is an experienced Information and Communication Technology Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the Banking and Insurance Industries. He is skilled in databases, IT service management, IT strategy, data warehousing, and integration. He is a professional in information technology with a degree in Computer Information Systems from the Africa University in Zimbabwe. He also has a Master of Commerce in Finance and Accounting from St. Eugene University in Zambia.

He holds ITIL Level 4 certification for enterprise risk management, AML, and information security and Oracle Associate certification. Previously, he held the position of Head of IT at FINCA Malawi, a microfinance deposit-taking institution. He is a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM).

Human Resource & Administration Manager

Katija Mataya

 (BA Human Resource Management, ABE Advanced Diploma)

Katija Mataya is an accomplished Human Resource Executive with proven expertise in the recruitment process, legal compliance, managerial support, labour relations and negotiation.

Katija is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Chancellor College (now known as the University of Malawi). She also possesses an Advanced Diploma in Business Management (ABE) and Advanced Secretarial Qualifications (City & Guilds).

She has accumulated over 15 years of work experience in both administration and human resource fields. In 2017 she received the CEO’s Award in recognition of her outstanding performance in expense management.

In her free time, Katija enjoys travelling, cooking and doing charity work.

Ian Solomoni

Ian Solomoni is a goal-oriented, motivated, and high achiever with over twenty years of experience in the Insurance Industry. He has extensive knowledge and experience in insurance underwriting, bancassurance, claims management, risk management, and reinsurance. He has successfully managed the implementation of different projects at UGI.  Ian joined UGI in 2002 and has served in several positions before rising to the position of Regional Manager.

Ian is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.

Eddah Sanena

Eddah Sanena is a driven and committed Chartered Insurer with a decade of experience. She is dedicated to attaining excellence in all tasks within specified timeframes. Possessing exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities, she excels at creatively solving challenges and securing advantageous agreements through her proactive approach to business.

Her passion for work is evident through her numerous accolades, including the UGI Employee of the Year Award in 2006 and the UGI Best Performing Employee in the Claims Department Award in 2013. These awards highlight her commitment to excellence and her exceptional performance in the insurance industry. Eddah is enthusiastic about continuous learning. She eagerly embraces new challenges to further enhance her professional growth.

Underwriting Manager

Blessings Chiyembekeza

Blessings Chiyembekeza is a driven, self-motivated individual with a track record of success spanning two decades in the Insurance Industry. She has vast knowledge in insurance underwriting, bancassurance, and reinsurance. Her extensive expertise in insurance and wealth of experience position her as a top mentor and trainer for new employees within the company.

Blessings’ exceptional leadership and organisational abilities have garnered recognition within the insurance industry, leading to her election to various positions and responsibilities within the Insurance Association of Malawi. She currently plays a pivotal role as a key member of the Education & Research Sub-Committee within the association.

Blessings is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.

Chief Accountant

Wax Bruce Maluwa

(MBA Finance, BBA, CIMA Advanced Diploma)

Wax Maluwa is a self-motivated and achievement-oriented accountant responsible for financial management, accounting, credit control, treasury, and investment accounts. He has over 20 years of extensive experience in financial management in the Insurance Sector. He has strong commercial and accounting knowledge and skills in performance improvement and financial reporting.

Wax has a Master’s in Business Administration-Finance from Columbia Commonwealth University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic (now known as Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences) and an Advanced Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Risk and Compliance Officer

Lusungu Kayira

Lusungu Kayira diligently integrates a comprehensive and proactive risk management strategy into UGI’s operations. By prioritising risk awareness and ethical practices, he ensures that UGI delivers high-quality insurance services to its customers and stakeholders. Lusungu fosters a culture of compliance with laws and industry standards, while also mitigating risks through monitoring and educating employees on best practices, including fraud prevention.

Lusungu has over 5 years of experience in risk analysis. He is an ACCA finalist with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic (now known as the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences).

Golden Jamu

Golden Jamu is a multi-faceted insurance practitioner with strong insurance technical knowledge and sound business acumen. He possesses over a decade of insurance practice in the Malawi Insurance Industry. He spent the majority of his career as an insurance broker which has equipped him with a substantial understanding of the insurance landscape in Malawi and the varying needs of insurance consumers.

Golden advocates for a customer-centric approach to business. He ensures that exceptional service is delivered to clients at all levels. His in-depth knowledge of insurance products enables him to tailor solutions to meet customer requirements, particularly in today’s dynamic risk environment. He embraces a learning culture and always creates an environment that fosters growth and development. In 2022 Golden won the Marsh Global CEO’s award for outstanding performance for Marsh Africa Regional Offices.

Golden is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) degree from the University of Malawi (formerly known as Chancellor College).

Claims Manager

Francis Kalawe

Francis Kalawe is a seasoned insurance professional, specializing in Claims Management. He has over a decade of experience working in the Insurance Industry. He has a record of leading the claims functions to achieve superior claims service, excellent claims cost management, and prudent stakeholder management. His contribution has been instrumental in launching new products, innovations, and service centres. He has exposure and expertise in handling all classes of business including classes that define the future of insurance like Agriculture and microinsurance products targeting SMEs.

Francis is a Chartered Insurer. He has a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree (Economics) from the University of Malawi (formerly known as Chancellor College). He was also trained in Risk Identification and Assessment by Sanlam SA. Currently, he is pursuing a qualification in Reinsurance.
